Guest Artist Month - Aleigha Jennings

    Hey All,
Today I'm excited to announce a special event on Just Draw: Guest Artist Month! During this month of May, We're going to be featuring quite a lot of talented people who love to draw as much as we do! I will be posting a new artist every week or so, that way you'll have some variety. Let Guest Artist Month begin!

Aleigha Jennings, age 13 of St. Michael, Minnesota is an amazing artist. Her creativity and artistic genius is visible in her works, and her style of artwork is personally a favorite of mine! She is such a sweet girl, and I've loved getting to know her. This drawing is a personal favorite of mine; I love the creativity and the dark, shadowy definitions. She is amazing at mirror imaging!

Aleigha is such a talented artist, and we were so happy to have her here on Just Draw!
Coming up next week is Courtney Trohn from FL, our next featured artist for Guest Artist Month...

        Signing off,
         Abby

Lent, an Absence, and Irving.

I have some rather unfortunate news:
I'm going to be absent from Just Draw for a little while. As some of you know, Lent is coming up this March, and I have decided to give up Electronics! So that means Just Draw won't be hearing from me until April. But AHA! Here's some news that is somewhat relieving:
I'll be drawing like mad while I'm away, so there will be so many new drawings, you won't even know what to do with yourself!!  But, so you won't be bored, here's a sketch of a rather unfortunate man named Irving the Slapped:

THE STORY:
This is a man named Irving McBride. His story is rather unfortunate, as it ends in partial tragedy.
Irving was an outcast in his village; his love of Sock-puppets and muffin baking was sadly misunderstood by the townspeople. He was in fact, so misunderstood, that the people of the village would walk up and randomly slap him, thus the title Irving the Slapped.
But then he became famous. His muffins were  superb, and quickly gained World Recognition. In the International Muffin Baking Competition, he made such delicious Grape-Flavored Muffins that the judges fainted with shock.
The townspeople slowly began to respect Irving. His slaps were less frequent. The women of the village ordered his instant muffin mixes. The children requested Sock-puppets. And the Town Superiors Who Are Most Superior began to include him in their extremely superior meetings.
But he is still slapped.
Though not much.
THE END.

Ubinous the Whooned and Some Eyes

I know I haven't posted in a while, (almost a month!) so I'm going to make it up to you with some strange sneaky drawings. I also have a surprise. But that will be in the next post.
I've been studying the eye.
I have also been drawing crazy old men who are wise.
That crazy old man is Ubinous The Whooned, a renowned poet who is constantly quoted by a rather large and jolly librarian.
He's awesome.

I also have two eye drawings, a profile and a front. The front took me a little while cause I was pretty picky about the pupil, but once I got the hang of it, it was pretty easy. I enjoyed sketching the profile the best, since there was more to draw:

                                                                             Front

Profile

So there you have it folks, some eyes and a very strange looking old man.
In the words of Ubinous the Whooned: "Are we quite done?"

The Finished Product

So you all remember the Sneak Peek in my last post? Well that bit of news has now turned into something much.... MUCH.... bigger: A FINISHED PAINTING. Yes, I can now proudly post the finished product of a 3 days work of art: The AUTUMN TREE! Behold its greatness:

                                                                        Full painting

A close up of the bulky trunk....

                                                                   The rather gnarly roots.

Timothy Green and a Sneak Peek.

Yesterday I watched The Odd Life of Timothy Green, and it was an amazing movie. The actors were great, the story was awesome, and the scenery was breathtaking. I felt personally bummed when the credits came. In fact, I loved it so much that I just had to draw something from it. You know, pay it a little respect. So that put me in front of a paused screen for about an hour sketching the Green's house:

Also, I have a little treat for ya: A sneak peek at my next watercolor piece... (make way for Mr. Sneaky... ):D ) It's inspired by a poem I had to memorize for school, and because of that I can proudly enter it here from memory:

                                      Nature's first Green is Gold,
                                         Its hardest hue to hold.
                                         Her first leaf's a flower,
                                           But only so an hour.
                                         Then leaf passes to leaf,
                                         And Eden wept for grief.
                                         Dawn goes down to Day.
                                          Nothing Gold can stay.
                                                           - Robert Frost

So here is THE BLESSED SNEAK PEEK:

                                                                  It's an Autumn Tree.
I apologize for the positively terrible picture, it's the only one I have of Phase 2. (I sorta forgot about pictures for the Sketch Phase...)

Watercolor Drawing

I know I know, I've been posting a lot lately. But I just can't help myself!
This is my first watercolor piece. I wasn't sure how exactly it would turn out, but I was pleasantly surprised! This is a farm scene (if you haven't already guessed) so the sketching part was pretty easy. But the details? Totally different story. The sky is much greyer and stormier in real life than in the image, but I like how it turned out :) So BEHOLD! The watercolor. (in 3 phases)

                                                                 Sketch: Phase 1.

                                                                 Simple Brushwork: Phase 2

                                                              THE FINISHED PAINTING!
                                                                           Phase 3.
